These sessions have been presented at various school districts as either half or full day sessions, customized to address the specific needs of music educators, and current trends in music technology use in education with connections to State Frameworks and National Music Standards. Perfect for staff in-services, our training experiences are available in either lecture/demonstration or hands-on format. In addition to these sessions we can arrange to create and customize presentations on specific topics to meet the needs of your music educators in the areas of instructional software, notation, music production, assessment or digital recording. Sessions are available on either Macintosh or Windows platforms.

Most requested introductory session! Teaching Music With Technology

An overview of technology for the K-12 music classroom with hands-on possibilities for participants. Presentation of a variety of instructional, notation, music production, and interactive software. Current trends in music technology use in education with connections to State Curricular Frameworks and National Music Standards. (Full or half day session available)

NEW! SmartMusic: Practice, Assessment, Recordings and Fun!

SmartMusic includes 30,000 vocal, string and wind accompaniments, most beginning band & string methods, assessment and CD quality recording. For beginners: SmartMusic has virtually all the band and orchestra methods – with assessment. For the more advanced: A full-featured practice system with 30,000 accompaniments, 50,000 skill-building exercises - with assessment, digital recording, complete Band arrangements and now the capability of creating your own accompaniments.
In this workshop you will:
• explore the various options of SmartMusic and how it can be used in the classroom and for individual student practice
• learn how to use the assessment tools
• create custom practice settings
• create audio accompaniments and record audio performances

Teaching Music With Garage Band (Macintosh)

This One Hour to Full Day Session explores the new iLife application from Apple called Garage Band. Loop-based music creation has revolutionized the way people record, compose and make music. We'll teach you how to use the application, give you ideas on how one can incorporate Garage Band into all facets of your music program. Example of work by students will be presented and participants will leave the session with a CD-R recording of their work. 

Teaching Music With Acid (Windows)

Not a Macintosh user? This One Hour to Full Day Session explores the use of Sony's Acid family of software. Before GarageBand, this loop-based music creation revolutionized the way Windows users record, compose and make music for many years. We'll teach you how to use the application, give you ideas on how one can incorporate Garage Band into all facets of your music program. Example of work by students will be presented and participants will leave the session with a CD-R recording of their work.

Teaching in the One Computer Music Classroom

Participants will learn creative strategies for integrating technology into the music curriculum. Explore the development of lessons that maximize students learning and integrate the available resources in your classroom – creatively and affordably. Adaptable to a “one computer classroom”, multiple stations, or no computer classrooms, participants are encouraged to bring their favorite lesson and see how you might be able to make it a technology – integrated lesson. These techniques are compatible with both Mac and Windows and will be demonstrated on both platforms. Concepts learned in this workshop can be applied to all K-12 music levels. Connections to State Frameworks and National Music Standards will be addressed during the session.

Music and the Web

Connect, Collect, Collaborate and Communicate! The Web offers a content rich environment for use in the music curriculum. Learn how to tap into these vast resources and visit student friendly websites that can be integrated into your teaching. Participants will leave with a large bookmark list of music sites for future reference and use. Concepts learned in this workshop can be applied to all K-12 music content levels. (Full or half day session available)

Music Educators Guide to Band in a Box

Band In A Box is one of the most versatile pieces of software for use in music education. Create exercises for classroom listening, movement, improvisation, study popular styles, form, teach chord progressions and composition. Learn many ways that BIAB can be applied in K-12 teaching. (Full or half day session available)

Creating Multimedia Music Lessons

Learn how powerful, but easy to use, multimedia programs can be employed to create lessons that incorporate text, graphics and interactivity that support your curriculum. Explore the use of audio conversion programs that provide you with digital access to audio CD's in your library that can be isolated into smaller sections, helping focus student listening on the elements of music. (Full day session recommended)

MP3's and CD-R's for Music Educators

New audio music formats provide the music educator with powerful tools for use in their classrooms and rehearsals. This workshop will teach participants how to use iTunes(Mac & Windows) to "rip", "encode" MP3's and "burn" audio CD's. Organizing listening lists and integrating this technology into teaching by using student-based projects will be a focus of this workshop. (Full or half day session available)

Addressing Standards for Composition with Technology

Address Arts Frameworks Standard #4 in your music curriculum and teach your students to think like composers with the use of computer-based software to create opportunities for students to create music in new ways! See how your students can create rhythm songs from patterns, use looped based programs to create "sophisticated" music in a variety of styles and transfer these "kreations" to real notation for additional composition. These programs provide unique opportunities for exploration of style, form, and chord progression. (Full day session recommended)

Finale and PrintMusic for Music Educators

This session is designed to explore inputting music using mouse or a music keyboard in both step-time and real-time recording techniques using the latest versions of Finale and PrintMusic software. A series of in-class assignments are given, each designed to learn a specific aspect of the program and to get you up and running quickly. Bring your questions, solve your notation problems, and learn more about the advanced features of these programs that can save you time. (Full day session recommended)

Sibelius for Music Educators

This session is designed to explore inputting music using mouse or a music keyboard in both step-time and real-time recording techniques using the latest versions of Sibelius. A series of in-class assignments are given, each designed to learn a specific aspect of the program and to get you up and running quickly. Bring your questions, solve your notation problems, and learn more about the advanced features of Sibelius that can save you time. (Full day session recommended)
